Nintendo Switch Is Amazing! | First Impressions

The Nintendo Switch Has Been a Long Time Coming

The Nintendo Switch has had a rocky past, It was under full wraps up until January. We didn’t have anything but rumors, fake images, and design sketches to work with to help get a full idea of what the console was. Nintendo was hell-bent on keeping everything a secret until January when they showed off the console and games. We saw a new Mario, Arms and of course more Zelda. Plus the new Joy-Con controllers, the fact that it could swap from TV to Console and back with little to no effort with just a hint of that Nintendo magic that tugs at all our heartstrings.

    Spending the Day Waiting

I had pre-ordered mine online through GameStop. I was excited that it made it to my doorstep on launch day. It got here at about 2:00 pm so I was more than ready to tear into it. I had spent the earlier part of the day going to multiple different stores to grab the latest Amiibos that had launched and was lucky enough to get all the news that had come out. Also, Best-Buy may have been sold out of Nintendo Switches but they had one last Zelda: Master Edition, and I just couldn’t pass up that chance since I had been unable to secure a pre-order.

From what I could gather Best Buy had sold out of switches in a matter of minutes of opening, Toys R Us sold out in about an hour after opening and Meijers had people waiting out front but had only gotten about 5 in total. Which does sound like a typical Nintendo launch where they keep things scare and demand high.

Nintendo Switch Makes a Strong First Impression

After a quick lunch, I return home to find the UPS driver delivering a package. Rushing through the whole meet and greet I run inside and tear open the box. Upon first glance, I’m surprised to find just how small the actual box is, it reminds me of a 3DS box due to its slim figure and length. You open the box and get hit with instructions on how to set it up. But we’re here to see the console, I was surprised to find out just how small the screen on the console was; this includes the Joy-Cons.

The Joy-Cons are a tad small but feel comfortable in your hand

They’re a lot smaller than I was picturing when viewing them online. But once you pick them up they feel fantastic, even in my big hands. I can see using one of the Joy-Cons by itself to play two-player games. Holding one in each hand feels great, like having a Wii-Mote in each hand with full motion control. I hope Nintendo takes advantage of this cause the possibilities could be cool.

Setting Up The Nintendo Switch Is Easy

Setting up the Switch is as easy as turning on the console itself. Since it doesn’t need to be connected to a TV to turn on or be viewed, it’s able to walk you through the setup process as soon as you hit the power button on the top left. It boils down to plug-in power adaptor into the switches cradle, plugs in an HDMI, and slides the switch into the cradle and boom you’re all ready to start playing some games. My Joy-Cons came connected to the Switch out of the box, which was a nice touch. The music, sound effects, graphics all have that Nintendo magic that makes you feel like your playing with something special and we haven’t even loaded up a game yet.

Nintendo Switch – You’re Here For Zelda

I didn’t feel like 1-2 Switch was worth a full 60 dollar price tag and still hold strong it should have been a pack-in like Wii-Sports was for the Wii. But I digress, anyway the game I did get my hands on was Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Now I’ll probably do a full write up for Zelda in a bit after I’ve had more time to play it. But after about seven hours or so I’m still in the starting area, haven’t collected a single rupee, and could not have a bigger smile on my face.

This game is crazy, it throws everything you know about Zelda out the window. It doesn’t make sense if you look at it purely from the Zelda template that we’re all used to. You’re thrown into a big open world and told to just explore. There is guidance in the way of waypoints and a general direction but you’re mainly left to your own devices.

Zelda Has Changed For the Better

Do you want to climb a mountain, kill baddies and collect weapons, just run around and search for chests? You can do all this and more in about 5 minutes of launching the game. It won’t stop you or warn you about dangers you’re just going to have to explore, test things out, and learn the hard way. Weapons and shields break surprisingly fast, you’re going to fill out your inventory and be deciding what to drop to pick up something with a bigger number that does more damage. You’re going to be cooking food to get stat boosts and refill health. While also taking super cool screenshots or your journeys.

Zelda Breath of the Wild Hello From Hyrule
The Nintendo Switch has a robust image editor

Taking images on the Nintendo Switch is surprisingly easy as it has a button dedicated to it. The main gripe I have with it is that currently, you can only upload them to Facebook and Twitter. Which is a real drag, taking out a Micro-SD to move images is just a chore. I hope in a future update they add more options for moving images around.

Did you get a Switch on launch day? Did you play a game other than Zelda? Let me know in the comments below your thoughts on the console. I’d love to hear your take on this new step forward for Nintendo!

Every Day Can’t Be Amazing Unfortunately

Sadly today is not amazing as I did not have time to finish the write up for the next video I have scheduled and I don’t want to upload something without it. It somehow feels worse than not uploading anything at all.  So instead I spent what time I did have tweaking my branding and changing the names of my videos to something more long term and more tied to the site as a whole.  I’m not sure if I’m going to even keep this post up or just replace it with the next video write-up instead.  But let me state my thoughts for the future of how I’m going to manage videos, thumbnails, and the like.

    New Amazing Thumbnails

Titanfall 2: Bounty Hunting Good Time New Amazing Thumbnail

So I had no idea what I was doing when Youtube gave me the power to upload my thumbnails. I just took a picture, placed the games logo on the front, and added some flavor text. It was pretty lazy, to be honest, and after spending the day researching how to even get a foothold in Youtube I decided to up the thumbnails as well as the Titles. Let’s start with the thumbnails, for now, It’s still pretty basic but I’m much happier with it. It has the logo in the lower right next to the title of the game and below it the name of the episode. I want this to be uniform across the board with all future content. A nice picture with a good title, plain and simple. Again I didn’t have time to make one for all my current videos, but I should have that sorted out tomorrow.

    It’s All in a Name

I think I have a pretty good name here honestly, but I could be dead wrong. It’s fairly easy to name my videos once I put some thought into it. Going forward I want to name all my first opening videos (GameName) is Amazing | Title. This fits the site naming convention, says the word Amazing to subtly shell out my sites ending tag, and tells the user that this is my first video all in one short title. Any videos after that will be named (GameName)… Continues to Amaze | Title. This still states just about the same thing it’s just the continuation since I’m putting out more than one episode. I’m trying to keep this all nice and simple, this is all still new and exciting but I don’t want to burn out because I’m putting in a crazy amount of work. I already updated all the titles on videos since that’s easy so that’s at least taken care of.

    Moving Forward

I’m hoping this works out, I physically can’t give more than 100% but I can damn well try my best. I want this site to have an amazing future for me, for you guys and everyone else. Please if you have any suggestions about if I’m screwing something up or how I can improve please let me know in the comments below. You can also comment in one of my Youtube videos, it would mean the world to me.

  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered – Veteran Difficulty is a Nightmare

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered – Veteran Difficulty is a Nightmare

    Oh, why hello there!

Welcome to my first article on EveryGamesAmazing.com!  That’s kind of exciting, something I started almost a year ago is getting somewhere.  Slow but steady wins the race, it’s just nice to finally have times/energy to devote to something that is going to become something truly grand. I was playing the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered on veteran thinking it’d be tough but possible; how wrong I was.

Everything was going fine, I progressed level by level, getting stuck but still marching forward.  Then I got to One Shot, One Kill and everything I thought was fun got tossed out the window.  It’s not that bad until you get to the final holdout.  It’s not fun and stating that it’s challenging is a massive understatement, it’s as if they made it nearly impossible on purpose.  When you’re tasked to place defensive’s around the Ferris Wheel you just know things are about to go down.

On any other difficulty, it feels empowering to mow down tons of enemies while you wait for the chopper.  You run around the little amusement park shooting at anything that moves while watching as more fall from MacMillan and his incredible sniping skills.  Blowing up claymores only adds to the mayhem as more and more enemy’s come down on you from above.  You wait, watch and pray that the copper will get there soon to bail you out.  Time flies by and soon enough you hear the chopper coming down, racing to MacMillan, and carrying him to safety is a harrowing experience.  The amusement park fills with the enemy’s but you’re safely in the chopper and on your way.

Veteran Difficulty The Bane of Existence

Now onto the hell that is Veteran difficulty; now I’d like to point out that Veteran up till this point was hard and semi-frustrating but possible.  This is where the game flips the script and feels unimaginably unfair in comparison.  Suddenly every enemy has perfect aim and the amount that rushes at you seems almost unreal.  The time the copper takes may not be any longer but it defiantly feels longer, but that may just because you die over and over.  There is one checkpoint when the reinforce choppers come in to tear you apart.  If you make it that far great you got through the easy part of this nightmare.

Now onto the second part which I can only say is possible by pure luck.  I can’t believe how impossible and truly vulnerable you feel.  You take any damage and it’s over.  You poke your head out and it’s over.  Nothing but pure luck and hoping Macmillan and some well-placed claymores will save you.  But they won’t, he can only take down so many people rushing you.  It’s up to you to take out a never-ending horde of people.  You never feel like you’re making progress, never feel like you’re any closer to that chopper saving you.  Just endless drones looking to take you down before you take them down.  It feels completely different from the rest of the game before it.  You were the one moving forward now the tables turn and you must hold out.

Endlessly dying and repeating the same section is hell in of itself.  You can try as many tactics as you want, it doesn’t feel like progression just moving backward.  Nothing makes your blood boil faster than the chopper finally getting to you, grabbing Macmillan and dying carrying him to the chopper.  It’s a terrible, defeating feeling that may very well put you over the edge.

I could only beat the mission after trying at that one part for over 2 hours, it’s an incredibly tough ending to a truly unforgettable mission.  Beating it is rewarding not just with that precious trophy/achievement but a sense of pride that you took on the odds and won.  May have been by the skin of your teeth but you accomplished something remarkably hard.

Do I just suck at this game or did anyone else have trouble with this game on Veteran, I stopped here because I could not imagine doing any of the later missions if the difficultly starts to spike here.  Let me know in the comments below!
