(5) Kingsglaive in Final Fantasy XV Hardly Knew Him

Final Fantasy XV: A Gentlemen’s Agreement Goes Sideways

(5) Kingsglaive in Final Fantasy XV Hardly Knew Him

After a nice break from Final Fantasy XV and the giant bird, I’m more than ready to jump back in and continue the journey with Noctis and crew. Let me tell you I was not prepared for anything that happened in today’s episode, playthrough, I have no idea what kind of format I’m going for yet.  It’s all part of the learning process I suppose.  I can’t stress enough how awesome you are if you’re reading this or watching my content.  You are awesome to help me on my quest to get better and better at something I love doing.

A Gentleman's Agreement for Noctis

Final Fantasy XV: A Gentleman’s Agreement

Anyway, enough of that sappy stuff, let’s get down to the craziness that is Final Fantasy XV.  I start by turning in the quest that Dino gave us earlier.  A quick conversation reveals that we can get on a ferry to continue our adventure. I decide that this is the best course of action to take since I want to move the story forward.  What I wasn’t ready for was the question placed before me, I didn’t think that the game would lock me into a story beat so early. Only having two other quests at the time helped to sway my decision since I wasn’t going to try and catch a fish for that cat again.

Kingsglaive Hardly Knew Him

Kingsglaive

Things go south for the King and his people, the letterboxing makes it more serious

A quick level up and choosing some favorite pictures is the calm before the storm. We open to a crowd cheering but quickly things go haywire. A tower fires off a big fireball, the streets fill with smoke and swords fly out of nowhere, seriously how where they hiding those massive things. The force field around the city evaporates just as we see King Lucis fighting a badass looking stranger; there is swordplay, lighting hands and an odd cut to a giant demonic monster destroying buildings. Unfortunately, Lucis can’t overpower the mysterious foe and he gets a sword through the chest.

We cut back to Noctis waking up from a great sleep that he can’t yet afford, probably my fault.  Ignis walks in with the grim news as everyone feels anguish and formulates a plan. Not so much a plan as just turning around and going back home. Heading to the Insomnia Border causes everyone to have doubt, seeing the giant airships and roadblock changes that tune rather fast. I love how this game shows scale, it’s always impressive and we’re still early on.

Fighting an Invading Army

Ignis fears make total sense, I wouldn’t want to walk up to this

Fighting Uphill

Ignis decides that we should take a detour to get around the massive army ahead of us. Taking a side route allows us to get to an entrance that is less guarded by these new invaders. Feeling the anger that Noctis is harboring causes me to jump headfirst into battle. The first time seeing the blindside link is cool because of how unexpected it was.  It helps to cement that team like feeling the game so perfectly nails, which is impressive in a solo campaign. Another quick battle uses Gladiolus “Tempest” move, it’s a big whirlwind that knocks enemy’s around him down.  This allows me to come in and clean up the rest of them.

Continuing onward seems like trouble as some more airships fly above us. Seeing a sniper before he sees us is cool until I utterly fail to Warp-Strike him. Sure, I hit him but I don’t stay up on the cliff to finish the job, causing me to flounder and stasis for the first time. Stasis is what happens when you run out of MP, I haven’t had this happen yet so it was a little confusing. You lose the ability to phase or blade-warp until it recovers, I stupidly ignore this and just blindly attack the rest of the enemy’s. This is the first time I see Ignis’s “Mark” move, it’s methodical which I feel fits his character. He throws giant throwing knives at all the enemies and I follow it up with some quick strikes; ending the battle and gaining a new Drain Lance.

4 men looking at a destroyed city

Surveying the destruction is about all we can do for now

It’s Lonely at the Top

We get to the top just to discover what we already knew, Pinto confirms the bad news via cellphone radio.  Everyone jumps on their phones to confirm while a fleet of airships goes overhead flying to place a foothold in the city. Noctis surprisingly doesn’t seem destroyed by the news only a little disheartened, he seems more upset by the disappearance of Luna. She’s the girl we wrote the note to in the notebook an episode or so back. Here we enter Chapter 2: No Turning Back in Final Fantasy XV.

Luna showing off her Dogs

Thankfully Luna is safe and we meet a new character as well

We see Luna is safe, holding the notebook and interacting with the same dogs we saw before. We also meet a new character who doesn’t like looking at the ring Luna is holding. Here we get a title card “The Power of Kings” which should be an interesting chapter or episode; I can’t tell what the difference’s between the two.  That was a great game sequence, some major stuff happened and the plot moved forward. The cut scenes are still expertly crafted, voice acting matches the tone and the combat still impactful nonetheless.

Moving right along to the Tomb of Royal Arms.
